Critical Infrastructure Security Month 2023

Critical Infrastructure Security Month (CISM) is a national month of focus and action dedicated to uplifting the security and resilience of critical infrastructure across Australia. Held in November each year, CISM gives all Australians a chance to reflect on the partnerships that underpin our shared security and prosperity.

Welcome to Critical Infrastructure Security Month 2023

Hamish Hansford: Hi everyone.

Welcome to Australia’s inaugural Critical Infrastructure Security Month, or CISM.

Across November, CISM will bring focused attention to the importance of safeguarding our critical infrastructure, sharing best practices, and fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors.

Over recent years, our world has undergone a profound transformation.

Technology has become integral to every aspect of our lives, and our critical infrastructure sectors have had to evolve.

Our energy operations, supply networks, healthcare providers, and communication networks, to name a few, are connected like never before.

A changing climate also presents new risks, such as increasingly frequent natural disasters.

While more traditional threats – like sabotage, espionage, and terrorism – haven’t gone away.

And in short, today the threats we face are diverse, persistent, and ever-growing.

Thankfully, collaboration is a significant force multiplier in response.

Robust public and private partnerships – based on mutual respect and understanding – give everyone the tools and techniques they need to lower risk and safeguard our shared prosperity.

This is why we’ve chosen partnerships as the inaugural theme for CISM.

Across the month, we’re delivering a range of initiatives and engagement opportunities to bring people together to discuss, learn and share best practice.

We’ll host a number of events, release new guidance and risk material, and – in keeping with this year’s theme – host some important discussions in partnership with a range of stakeholders.

Visit the CISC website for more information.

Together, we can make a difference and safeguard Australia’s shared security and prosperity.
